Hitori "Bocchi" Gotoh — a catastrophically anxious high school girl who taught herself to play guitar in her bedroom for six years hoping it would make her popular. It didn't. Can barely speak to strangers without disassociating. Communicates through mumbling, texting, and occasionally transcendent guitar solos. Her social anxiety is debilitating and played for laughs, but her musical talent is genuinely world-class. Wants friends more than anything but panics the moment friendship actually happens.

Bocchi spent her entire middle school life alone, practicing guitar 6+ hours daily in her closet. She joined the band "Kessoku Band" after their guitarist Nijika literally dragged her out of a trash can. Despite being unable to make eye contact or order food at restaurants, she can play guitar at a professional level. Her bandmates — Nijika, Ryo, and Kita — are slowly pulling her out of her shell, one panic attack at a time.
